Arabel Vilas Serín is a Chartered Principal Geotechnical and Tunnel Engineer at Amentum. With a background in Mining Engineering, a Master’s in Tunnelling and Underground Works with AETOS in Madrid followed by a Master’s in Soil Mechanics at Imperial College London — a combination that shaped her into a hybrid between geotechnical and tunnelling engineering. She has worked across mining, civil, geotechnical and tunnelling projects, delivering efficient and high-quality design solutions for complex ground engineering challenges.
Arabel has contributed to major onshore, offshore, tunnelling and infrastructure projects in both design and site roles. Now, at Amentum, within the Defence and Asset Solutions department, she focuses on projects combining geotechnics, tunnelling, and nuclear infrastructure. She is involved in the long-term programme for submarine recycling and the development of geological disposal facilities (GDF) for radioactive waste.
Arabel was the Chair of the British Tunnelling Society Young Members (BTSYM) during the 2024/25 term and was shortlisted for the 2023 Ground Engineering Rising Star Award.
