I am a technical expert working for Vinci Construction UK. I am involved in  a wide variety of work ranging from civil engineering projects such as London Underground station upgrades to large-scale building projects including multi-level basements. I was involved in the concept design of many of the Crossrail stations at the western end of the tunnelled section, notably working on the work sequence for constructing the Paddington box to allow traffic to be re-instated in a timely manner. I was also involved in the concept design to avoid the basements of the grade 1 listed Macmillan House at Paddington. I have subsequently worked on the retention works to allow demolition of masonry arch bridges at Whitechapel using a form of reticulated piling using inclined micro-pile so that the Crossrail Station concourse could be located. One of the strangest and surprisingly most challenging projects I have worked is constructing a length of tunnel from precast segments above ground. It was far more difficult than it sounds. I certainly learnt a lot about how tunnel segments are made and put together, but it’s not something you do very often.
