Yuli is a Chartered Engineer (CEng) with 25+ years’ experience in a variety of geotechnical and civil engineering projects. She obtained her first degree in Civil Engineer in Greece and came to the UK to attend a Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Rock Mechanics and Foundation Engineering in the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Following the successful completion of her MSc in 1994, she worked for the Jubilee Line Extension project in London as a graduate tunnelling engineer for Amec/Balfour Beatty JV. She later moved to Hong Kong where she worked for Mouchel Asia Limited as a Geotechnical Engineer, from 1996 to 2005, when she returned back to the UK.
She joined Tensar (the inventor of polymeric geogrid and pioneer solution provider to stabilise pavements/rail track/working platforms and reinforce retaining soil structures) in April 2006 as a Senior Civil Engineer. In April 2009 she was promoted to the position of Chief Civil Engineer, a position she still holds to date. Yuli is based in Tensar’s UK HQ and holds the overall responsibility of the Tensar Global Design Team with offices in Germany, Holland, France, Russia, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and China and representatives in Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Yuli currently Chairs the UK Committee of the International Geosynthetics Society and she is an active member of many other technical committees both here in the UK as well as international ones.
Yuli is a judge for the ICE NW Engineering Project Awards. She is a strong supporter of STEM and empowering young females and males into Engineering. Yuli is the first female Engineer in the North West of the UK to obtain Fellowship of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE) in September 2011. She is a Liveryman and a Court Assistant for the Worshipful Company of Engineers. Yuli is also the first civilian Civil Engineer to become a Fellow of the Institution of Royal Engineers (FInstRE) in May 2018.
