Clare has spent over fifteen years working on railway embankments and cuttings and currently works as a Senior Asset Engineer (Geotechnics) with Network Rail. She loves rocks, landscapes and the railway, with a particular fondness for railways running through rocky landscapes. Clare is particularly passionate about knowledge sharing and was involved with the ICE Yorkshire Geotechnical Group for over ten years, stepping down as Chair in 2015. She has also sat on the Panel of the Register of Ground Engineering Professionals, and is a member of both the Institute of Rail Operators and the Permanent Way Institution.
