Dr David Giles graduated in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics from Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1983 and spent a period in industry with Mott MacDonald, NERC, British Geological Survey and Scott Pickford Associates before joining the University of Portsmouth in 1991 as a Principal Lecturer in Engineering Geology teaching on the undergraduate and postgraduate pathways. Currently contributing to the Geological Society’s Working Parties on Geological Hazards and Glacial and Periglacial Engineering Geology. Extensive field experience leading both student and professional field meetings. Main areas of teaching include Quaternary Engineering Geology, engineering geomorphology, landslides and slope instability, contaminated land, risk assessment and spatial data modelling.
