Alkis Gkouvailas is a Technical Director at Langan International with 18 years of international experience in geotechnical engineering. He has worked across the UK, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the US on major infrastructure, energy and development projects, including data centre projects in the US. His expertise includes rock mechanics, engineering geology, numerical modelling of rock slopes, underground structures and foundations, together with construction supervision, support and coordination. Alkis currently leads the geotechnical team for the Mohammed Bin Salman Stadium at Qiddiya, managing key interfaces with the Client, site teams and other design disciplines. He also provides specialist support to Langan’s wider Middle East portfolio and other rock mechanics-related projects. Previously, he held technical leadership roles on the NEOM Spine tunnels and Hinkley Point C. Alkis contributes to the wider profession through publications and invited presentations and is a member of IAEG Commission 38, focusing on rock mass characterisation with emphasis on rock slope hazards.
