Luisa Hendry, known online as @scottishgeologist, is a Scottish geologist and science communicator celebrated for her engaging content on Scotland’s rich geology. Born and raised in Largs, North Ayrshire, her fascination with rocks began as a child, collecting stones from the beach and drawing inspiration from geology-themed films like Volcano. Initially aspiring to be a fashion designer, her career path shifted after attending a University of Glasgow open day, where she discovered Earth Sciences. Luisa graduated with a BSc in Earth Science from the University of Glasgow in 2015. Luisa worked as an Engineering Geologist on major ground investigation projects across the UK between 2015 to 2024 where she analysed geological data to inform construction projects. In April 2023, she began sharing her passion for geology on social media, creating fun and accessible videos about Scotland’s unique rock formations and landscapes. Her authentic approach quickly gained traction, earning her over 500K followers by the end of 2024. Building on her success, Luisa founded “Scot Rock Walks” in 2024, offering guided tours to educate the public about Scotland’s geological heritage. By mid-2024, she left engineering to focus full-time on her business, online content, and educational workshops. Luisa’s work has inspired countless people to explore geology and appreciate Scotland’s natural beauty, proving that modern platforms can effectively promote science education.
