"Vanessa (Nessa) Burton (She/her), Senior Engineer, Aurecon in New Zealand. Nessa (Vanessa) is a Senior Engineer. A graduate of the University of Surrey with an MEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering. She has worked on Major Multidisciplinary Projects in Transportation, Rail, Aviation and Nuclear. She is enthusiastic about improving the construction industry throughout the supply chain, incorporating all perspectives to solve today’s and tomorrow’s needs. Vanessa is passionate about providing greater visibility to the construction industry, especially geotechnical engineering. She is a mentor on the Ground Forum Undergraduate Mentoring Programme and a governor at a primary school focusing on STEM subjects. In addition, she sits on the Royal Academy of Engineers D&I Industry Leaders Group, discussing diversity, equity, equality, and inclusivity within the industry. Vanessa has been awarded Rising Star by Ground Engineering Awards 2021, Young EM Professional of the Year by the AFBE 2021, Rising Star by Women in Rail 2020, and listed Top 100 Most Influential Women in Engineering in the Inclusive Boards and Financial Times List 2019."
