Derek Butcher is currently Principal Geotechnical Engineer and works for Network Rail, based in London, looking after earthworks and drainage in the Southern Region. Previously Derek has worked for consultants Atkins, Babtie (now Jacobs) and Knight Piesold (now Scott Wilson) and also Kent County Council. He has 32 years experience in Geotechnical Engineering. Derek has an Honours Batchelor of Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Greenwich and is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He has been Chairman of the Kent and East Sussex Branch of the ICE, Chairman of the South East Region of the ICE and Chairman of the Geotechnical Asset Owners Forum. He is a UK Registered Ground Engineering Adviser.
